Celebrated in June, Great Outdoors Month (GOM) is a national event that encourages people to enjoy America's public lands, waterways, forests, wildlife refuges, monuments, marine sanctuaries and more while participating in outdoor activities. It's also a time to celebrate the people who work to protect and improve these spaces.

What started out as Great Outdoors Week (in 1998 under President Bill Clinton) has grown into a month-long celebration of everything outdoors. It promotes the importance of stewardship, service and conservation of public lands and waterways, as well as making the great outdoors accessible for everyone. It’s also just a great excuse to cast off from the marina or private boat slip rental and have some fun.

Coordinated by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable — and recognized by organizations like the National Park Service and outdoor sporting companies like Polaris — GOM is designed to promote activities like hiking, camping, boating, fishing, bicycling and anything else you can do in the great outdoors. We may be a little biased, but that can only mean boating in our opinion.
