Marietta is a charming Ohio riverfront town steeped in history and natural beauty. The town was the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory and offers a wide range of attractions for visitors to check out from marinas, private boat slip rentals and docks.

The Ohio River and Muskingum River

Situated at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers, Marietta is an ideal spot for scenic riverfront activities. Take a leisurely walk along the riverside trails or enjoy a boat ride to soak in the views. Several local marinas have boat rentals, fuel pumps, docking and ramps for access to the broad Ohio River. Go fishing for catfish, walleye and bass, or check out the historic hand-operated locks and dams on the Muskingum River. 

The Castle

This Gothic Revival-style Marietta’s Castle offers a glimpse into 19th-century life. The Castle is an architectural gem and hosts educational programs, historical exhibits and seasonal events. It makes a terrific place to check out from marinas or a private boat lift rental. 

Mound Cemetery

Home to the largest conical Adena burial mound in Ohio, Mound Cemetery is a fascinating site for history buffs to visit from private boat slips for rent. The cemetery also features graves of Revolutionary War veterans, adding to its historical significance.

Campus Martius Museum

The Campus Martius Museum, a civilian fortification built in 1788, is dedicated to preserving the history of the early settlers of the Northwest Territory. It showcases artifacts, historic buildings and exhibits about the pioneer era. Historic structures include the Rufus Putnam House and the Ohio Company Land Office, the oldest building in Ohio.
