Located at the easternmost tip of Long Island near Montauk Point State Park, Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State. Commissioned by President George Washington in 1792, it was completed in 1796. It’s the fourth-oldest active lighthouse in the U.S. and provides a crucial beacon for ships navigating the Atlantic Ocean.

The lighthouse tower is 110 feet tall. Visitors can climb 137 iron steps to reach the top. The site also includes a museum with exhibits on maritime history, local marine life and the lighthouse's role in shipwreck rescues.

Standing at the western end of Fire Island off of Long Island, the Fire Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1858. It replaced an original lighthouse built in 1826. It played a significant role in guiding ships into New York Harbor, especially during the mass immigration era when ships arrived from Europe.

The lighthouse is 168 feet tall with a light that is visible for more more than 20 miles. The keeper's quarters have been converted into a museum. Guided tours are available. Enjoy the panoramic views from the top.

Authorized by President Thomas Jefferson in 1790, Horton Point Lighthouse was completed in 1857. It’s located on a cliff overlooking Long Island Sound in Southold and has served as a critical navigational aid for vessels traveling between New York and Connecticut.

The lighthouse includes a museum with maritime artifacts and local history exhibits. The surrounding park offers picnic areas and nature trails to check out before heading back to private boat docks for rent.

Also known as "The Coffee Pot" due to its unique shape, Orient Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1899. It marks the entrance to Long Island Sound from Gardiners Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The cast-iron lighthouse is mounted on a cylindrical concrete foundation and stands 45 feet tall and is accessible only by boat from a marina or private boat lift rental. Though it is not open to the public, it remains a distinctive and important maritime feature.

Orient Point Lighthouse is now automated with a modern LED light, but it still retains much of its historical charm. Despite the automation, the structure requires regular maintenance to withstand the harsh marine environment. It’s managed by the United States Coast Guard and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Originally named Lloyd Harbor Lighthouse, Huntington Harbor Lighthouse was originally built in 1857 and was replaced by the current structure in 1912. The lighthouse sits at the entrance to Huntington Harbor where it has guided many vessels safely to shore with a flickering white light. The lighthouse has a unique square design that makes a great photo op. Tours are offered during the summer months.

Managed by the Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society, the lighthouse underwent significant restoration to preserve its historical integrity. It’s now a popular site for tours, educational programs and the annual Lighthouse Music Fest.
