Dock and Dine: Restaurants to Visit by Boat in St. Augustine, Florida

Dock and Dine: Restaurants to Visit by Boat in St. Augustine, Florida

Located along the waterways of the Matanzas River, the San Sabastian River and the Atlantic Ocean, America’s oldest city of St. Augustine offers cobblestone streets, Spanish-influenced architecture and historic attractions (not to mention a fun collection of piracy and Medieval museums). You’ll also find a wide array of fun and unique restaurants, bars and cafes.

St. Augustine is a very walkable city, so you may want to just tie up the boat, grab a bite to eat and explore on foot for a few hours. The St. Augustine Municipal Marina, located just south of the Bridge of Lions, has 96 slips. As popular as the area is, you’ll want to reserve a slip ahead of time.

If you’re planning to visit St. Augustine by boat – whether traveling the ICW, sailing in from Jacksonville, staying at a private boat dock rental or traversing  the Great Loop – there are also several restaurants where you can pull right up and dock where you’ll be dining. Let’s check ‘em out!

St. Augustine Fish Camp, on the harbor of the San Sebastian River, features a wide selection of seafood, ceviche, pasta, top sirloin steak, buttermilk pan-fried chicken and more. All with waterfront views. If the name sounds familiar, you’re right. There are other locations of the Fish Camp family in Jacksonville, Neptune Beach and Ponte Vedre Beach.

Conch House overlooks Salt Run and offers live music, a restaurant, a bar, a hotel and a marina with views of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. You’ll find it on the other side of the Bridge of Lions (on Anastasia Island) from the historic downtown area of St. Augustine. Enjoy Caribbean-inspired cuisine like conch fritters, shrimp tacos and the catch of the day. Don’t forget a giant slice of key lime pie. Dine indoors, on the deck or in pod-like gazebos over the water. There are 194 slips if you don’t have a private boat lift rental.

The Kingfish Grill is on Yacht Club Drive off A1A at Comanche Cove Yacht Harbor (near the Vilano Beach Causeway). Enjoy waterfront ICW views with menu selections such as seafood, fried shrimp, angus burgers, sushi and house-smoked St. Louis ribs. There’s indoor and outdoor dining, live music and Salsa Sundays (the music, not the topping).

Hurricane Patty’s, located at Rivers Edge Marina on Oyster Creek, offers several gator dishes, New England clam chowder, pot roast, shrimp and grits, Cajun pasta, Lowcountry boils and New York strip (not to mention a wide variety of tropical cocktails). The docks are right out front, and we hear it’s a terrific location for sunset viewing before cruising back to a private boat lift for rent.
