Few things can ruin a day on the water faster than issues like dead batteries, electrical issues or damaged propellers. Whether you’re out for a day of fishing, sightseeing or even just hanging out at the marina or private boat dock rental with friends, you’ll want to make sure you have the right tools to fix any issue that pops up.

In addition to the all-important safety and emergency tools and gear, there are some basic maintenance tools that can save the day when out on the boat.

Basic Hand Tools

  1. Screwdrivers: A set of flathead and Phillips screwdrivers in various sizes is indispensable for tightening screws, removing panels and performing general repairs.
  2. Pliers: Needle-nose and slip-joint pliers are versatile for gripping, bending and cutting wire. A set of locking pliers can also be very useful for small repairs at the private boat lift rental.
  3. Wrenches: Combination wrenches, an adjustable wrench and a socket set cover most nuts and bolts on a boat. Ensure you have both metric and standard sizes.
